We would like to thank you all for your unemployed and trying stories. We encourage you to send us emails with your stories!

  • A patriotic American all of my life and now sad to confess my shrinking faith in this country and it’s government to act responsibly in the face of dire times to address the urgent and growing needs of unemployed Americans. I am one of millions of citizens and voters who have worked much of their lives, done the right thing, and paid taxes incessantly to support the common good of this country. Now, when so many of us find ourselves without jobs and desperately struggling in a crippled economy caused by unbridled greed, special interests patronage, unpoliced regulation and the outsourcing of jobs to other countries, our elected representatives are haggling over whether or not to continue the lifeline for us??? Puhleeeze!
As a middle aged highly experienced and productive worker, layoffs have been forced me to give up my career of 17 years and I am left with little potential to remain in the same role or business due to serious decline of the business in this country. Once a middle class American enjoying the American dream, I am no longer any of that. I am sure there are many illegal as well as legal immigrants enjoying a higher standard of living than I am now, through special programs and funding. This makes it especially difficult for us to swallow the ongoing debate about the extension of unemployment benefits for deserving American citizens who have paid into the system and generated huge profits for their employers over their lifetime.
I recently watched as a news journalist challenged a republican congressman with the question of healthcare reform – why are all Americans not able to partake in the special health care coverage options enjoyed by Congress? That would seem to make best sense versus all of the clamor and self defeating discontent among our representative as they strive to re-create the wheel and craft a whole new freight train being called health care reform? Please, someone answer that question – why cannot all Americans partake in the special health care coverage options that Congress enjoys??? This question needs larger emphasis and exposure and Washington needs to be held accountable to provide an answer to this question. We are sick and tired of the dodgery and elitism being demonstrated in Washington.
  • My unemployment benefits ran out in September, October was a very hard month and November will be harder. Please pass this bill NOW, not tomorrow, not next week. I don’t have enough money for food. I am looking for jobs but nothing is happening. Please push this bill through so I can feed my family and give me a clearer head as I look for another job. PLEASE, it is desperate. Thousands lose benefits everyday, mine are already exhausted and I need this for daily necessities. Please help us, don’t get caught up in politics now, this is not the right time when you are dealing with people putting food on their table.
  • Why are the Republicans taking so long to help the hundreds of thousands of people losing their unemployment benefits every month..? Why? Because it doesn’t affect their families, that’s why.And in my opinion, this kind of thinking is at the heart of why the Republican Party lost the last election and will continue to lose. There really is no such thing as a ‘compassionate conservative.’ …just a lot of talk!Joe, A REAL PLUMBER, as in licensed!

  • Just pretend it is for one of the Big corporations that is going to give all of its CEOs large year end bonuses, and have NO intentions of paying it back. And just do it already. We, the American Taxpayers are barely holding on. Rich Hearn , Lower Eastern Shore, MD.
  • We were treading water when I had benefits, not a bad thing with all that has been going on. Now we are submerged, hanging on every vote in the senate , feeling incredulous that the senate really understand life in the real world. Must be the Alice in Wonderland effect. Daily creditor calls because they have no options for people short on funds. Weekly calls from Capital One Auto finance because they can’t be creative and reduce interest to lower payments. Good news last week on our mortgage as we were modified!!! It has been slow and painful, hundreds of resumes but hope abounds. Let’s rattle our senators- get a clue!
  • The senate is worried about un related bills whiele we all suffer! We were doing just fine getting by. Now I’m behind on everything!!! I’m not enven sure how I’m going to make my house payment. But lets hold it up yet another day. Our us senate has failed us american people! It is so sad that they would let people go hungery in the USA whiele they fight over there own agneda’s! It is so sad to see a goverment that is no longer for the people. Let face is you are looking out for you.  Are you going cold? Are you and your kids starving? Are you unable to find a job anywhere? Are you going to loose your home? NO! That is why you continue to drag things out for no reason. It is going to get very bad. People can not support them selves! The US senate is going to be responisble for the crime and death that is going to take place in all of our towns and cities.  All for 300$ a week. All of your cell phones are worth more. Your shoes, car houses all pay for by the us tax payer dollar. I just wonder how do you sleep at night? How can you all stand to look in the mirror.  I have an son with Autism! I would like you to explain to him why he is no longer going to be living in his home! YOU Deal with the pain!

  • I have been trying to get a job for over 1 & 1/2 years now. I even went to a medical secretary school to get a certificate because that was suppose to be the only growing industry. Problem is with no one working they only take people with over one year of experience. I would now like to get a liscence in Coding, but if I have no benefits I don’t know what I will do. I am over 50 years old and a widow. Please extend the unemployment benefits for those of us who have no where else to turn. There are really no jobs out there, at least in Ohio. Even the temp agencies have no jobs anymore. Sincerely, Cynthia Link
  • Please pass the unemployment bill SOON!!!  It will be a very tough Thanksgiving without any more benefits.  My benefits ran out in October.
  • I am a single, 58 year old woman, who has worked in the film industry for over 30 years. I have been out of work for close to 3 years due to first an 8 month writer strike and then the actors threathened to strike for close to a year. Films and now tv series have been leaving LA for out of state productions at an alarming rate. I am not old enough to retire. My home out of state is in foreclosure. I sold my only car last year to pay bills. I have been having to resort to food banks for the first time in my life. Because I still technically own property (even though it is in foreclosure), I don’t qualify for any welfare.  I am desparate!!! My Great Grandfather immigrated from Ireland to serve in the Civil War. I have worked all my life in the US and never applied for welfare.  I NEED HELP NOW!! PLEASE PASS THIS NEW UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION. MY LAST UNEMPLOYMENT CHECK WAS ON AUGUST 29, 2009. I HAVE HAD NO INCOME COMING IN SINCE.  Sincerely, Lola Chambers
  • I sure wish you all would extened the unemployment now. I’ve tried to find a job each day and no luck. with all my knowledge and exsperice of 29 year with the same company you’d think that it would be easier. but it isn’t… I need the money just to live from week to week. Have you been to the grocery store lately, you’d understand that it isn’t cheep anymore…. Please pass this asap Thanks
